Bachelor's Grove Cemetery, Midlothian IL
Located in Midlothian, IL, Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery dates from the early 1800s and is considered one of the most haunted places in Illinois. Run down from years of mistreatment and neglect, this ramshackle burial ground boasts a whole range of otherworldly phenomena ranging from a reoccurring phantom white lady carrying her baby (the White Madonna) to a disappearing black dog. Despite the current dilapidated condition and history of ghostly wonders, I found this cemetery a beautiful and quite peaceful place to spend an afternoon with my camera. As well as often utilizing a shallow depth of field to create the atmosphere I was envisioning, I applied my own custom preset filters that combines black and white conversion, sepia split toning and an overall softening of light and focus.
